This is the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge today at their unpacked event in Barcelona. This device is a big change from previous Galaxy devices. The S6 Edge is the first device to have duel curved edges and new metal unibody design. To learn about all the great changes continue reading below.
Galaxy S6 Edge with metal 50% stronger than competitors. So essentially you will not be able to bend this device.
The Galaxy S6 will come in 4 vibrant colors. There will now be a non-removable back and will have both a front and back cover glass that is Gorilla Glass 4.
The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge with ours a 5.1″ Quad HD Super AMOLED display. The resolution with be 2560 x 1440 which gives it the highest pixel density to date of 577 PPI (Points Per Inch.) Quad HD means that the screen is basically four times the pixels as a 720P TV.
The Galaxy S6 will have a front facing 5MP camera. The F1.9 lens will allow for greater brightness in low light situations.
The rear camera with be 16MP with the same F1.9 lens. It will also adapt OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) which was added in the Note 4 that leads to crisper photos.
Here is an example of the Galaxy S6 camera vs. the iPhone 6 Plus camera. The new lens will allow for great lighting in low light situations. This will also have a great impact when recording videos. You can now open the camera just by double tapping the home button in 0.7 seconds.
The Galaxy S6 will have a 64bit processor. This will greatly improve the speed and flow of the operating system. Previous Galaxy phones have run on a 32bit system.
The S6 will have Universal Flash Storage 2.0 which is a mix between normal flash storage and that found in SSD (Solid State Drives.) This will record your photos and movies much faster and will speed up the device.
The new smaller processing chip will improve the device performance by 20%.
The S6 will be equipped with DDR4 RAM (Random Access Memory) the will improve the efficiency of the RAM by 80%. This will mostly be noticed when doing heavy multi-tasking.
TouchWiz is what Samsung overlays on the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS (Operating System) to give their devices a unique look and feel. TouchWiz is being updated to change with each app and the colors of those apps. It will also simplify menus and improve action buttons by changing them to text instead of using small icons.
The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will both work with a new Gear VR. With the higher pixel density of 577 PPI this will lead to the best 360 degree virtual experience on the planet.
One major benefit of the Galaxy S6 Edge is that ability to see notifications the screen facing down. The Edge will illuminate when you are receiving notifications from a contact and their color you have pre-selected. You will also be able to reject phone calls just by placing your finger on the Heart Rate Monitor.
The S6 will include the Adaptive Fast Charging capabilities that were added on the Note 4. This means with only 10 minutes of charge you gain up to 4 more hours of life on the phone. This also equates to a 50% charged in only 30 minutes. This uses the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 Standard. This is very important to have now that the S6 will no longer have a removable battery. The S6 will also be compatible with the 2 major standards of wireless charging which will work out of the box.
The S6 and S6 Edge will not have a removable Micro SD card slot. With the new entry level device will come with 32GB of capacity and will also be available in 64GB and 128GB options.
The Galaxy S6 will also features a new TouchID based fingerprint sensor that will allow to unlock your device with a simple tap of your finger. Samsung Pay will also allow you to pay using your phone at almost all merchants using NFC or even touching your phone to the mag strip terminal.
These new devices will be available to many countries starting April 10th and will be available in all countries shortly after. There are some major changes here from Samsung and they truly have set a new standard for the mobile industry.
