Today on Tech With Brett I am talking about the Samsung Galaxy S7 and what it means that it is water resistant.
In technical terms the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge is IP68 certified. The IP (Ingress Protection) scale defines what each of the digits mean and how protected the Galaxy S7 is. The first digit deals with how protected the device is from dust and the second digit is its ability to withstand water. See chart below for the definition of each digit.
This then means that the Galaxy S7 is dust proof and though the chart does not define much about the 8, but it means that it can be immersed in water 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. If that is not convincing enough also check out the S7’s manual and its guidelines for using the device in water.
I have placed my S7 in water many times and it still works flawless. The only temporary issue you may have is water gets stuck in the speaker and it will sound muffled until it dries out completely. There has been absolutely no long term damage.
If you have the S7 or S7 edge and have not made the plunge, I hope this has given you the confidence to try it out!
